About the shop

One block, eleven years, every item chosen by hand.

No franchise, no corporate buyer, no shelf space sold to a distributor. The owner grew up two blocks from the front door and still picks the line-up herself.

Why downtown

A storefront is a promise you can walk into.

Local retail rarely loses to online shopping outright. It loses to invisibility — someone two miles away searches for exactly what's on the shelf, finds nothing, and orders it.

So the site's job is simple: show what's carried, when we're open, and who made it, in text a search engine and an AI assistant can both read out loud.

Behind the counter

Who you'll actually meet.

Nina Alvarado

Owner · Buyer

Grew up two blocks from the store and has spent eleven years buying for it. Picks every maker personally and refuses anything she wouldn't use at home.

Owen Pratt

Floor lead · Gift wrap

Runs the floor resets, the wish-list book, and the wrap table. Knows exactly what's in the back room without checking.

Teresa Lim

Maker relations

Handles the consignment shelf, maker profiles, and the monthly Meet-the-Maker table. Former farmers market manager.

How we buy

Local first, useful second.

1. See it before you drive

Categories, brands, and current shelf highlights are on the site, so a shopper two miles away knows the trip is worth it.

2. Call or message to hold

Anything can be set aside at the counter the same day. No cart, no checkout, no shipping label — just a name on a bag.

3. Pick up or have it wrapped

Wrapping is free and takes about four minutes. Curbside pickup runs during holiday weekends when parking gets tight.

4. Come back for the reset

The floor changes six times a year and the events page tells you when. Regulars plan around the November open house.

Downtown regulars

What regulars and makers say.

Every gift I've given in three years came from here and people always ask where I found it.

They carry my jam on the maker shelf and it moves faster than any market I do.

Free wrapping saved me the night before a wedding. That alone earned my loyalty.

Storefront questions

Ownership, buying, hiring, and community support.

How long has the shop been open?

Eleven years on San Benito Street in this sample scenario, owned by someone who grew up two blocks away and buys every item on the floor personally.

Is the shop locally owned?

Independently owned and operated in Hollister, with no franchise, no corporate buyer, and no shelf space sold to distributors.

How do you choose what to carry?

Local first, useful second, and nothing the owner wouldn't put in her own kitchen. Makers within San Benito County get first look at open shelf space.

Do you hire locally?

Every position is filled from Hollister and the surrounding towns, usually part-time and scheduled around school and family.

How does the shop give back to the Hollister community?

We support our region through dedicated fundraiser nights, donating gift items to San Benito County school auctions, and providing free shelf space to highlight rotating local non-profit causes.

Do you offer shipping for your retail products?

We do not ship in this specific scenario. All items are for in-store pickup or holiday curbside service. However, family members living outside of Hollister can purchase gifts over the phone for local pickup by residents.

Why should I make the drive to your San Benito Street location?

The value is in the experience: feeling the quality of the goods, getting expert gift wrapping in just 4 minutes, and supporting a business that knows the makers personally. We aim to show you exactly why we are worth the trip from Highway 156.
