Providers FAQ

Credentials, continuity, and choosing a clinician.

Can I select a specific primary care doctor at your practice?

Yes, and we highly encourage it. Continuity of care is vital for residents near San Juan Bautista seeking long-term wellness. You will be booked with your preferred clinician by default unless you choose an earlier opening with another member of our medical team.

What's the difference between an MD, a DO, an NP, and a PA?

MDs and DOs are physicians with equivalent licensing; DOs add musculoskeletal training. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants are licensed clinicians who diagnose, treat, and prescribe, working alongside the physicians here. All four see patients independently in this clinic.

Which Hollister medical providers are currently taking new patients?

Dr. Ruiz, Dr. Whitfield, and Priya Nadkarni are all currently accepting new patients from across San Benito County. While Luis Ontiveros has a full patient panel, he remains available to see everyone during our Saturday walk-in clinic hours.

Will I always see the same doctor or PA?

For all scheduled appointments, yes. For same-day needs or Saturday walk-ins at our clinic near downtown Hollister, you may see the provider on duty, who will fully review your medical history before your exam.

Do any providers speak Spanish?

Dr. Ruiz and Luis Ontiveros are fluent, and the front desk is bilingual. Professional interpretation for other languages is arranged at no cost.

Are your San Benito County clinicians board certified?

Absolutely. Our physicians are board-certified in family medicine, and our nurse practitioner and physician assistant hold national certifications. All providers maintain active California licenses in good standing to serve the Hollister community.

Is it possible to switch to a different provider in the office?

You can change providers at any time without an awkward conversation. Simply let our front desk staff know and your medical records will stay right here in our Hollister office.
